We had a situation with a neighbouring property to one of ours. A contractor assumed that the building was falling and called in building inspectors. The city evacuated that building as well as the lower floors of our adjacent Office tower. The situation was blown well out of perspective and at first the media was reporting that there was a fire in our property, then it was reported that our building was falling and not the adjacent residential apartment. This building has as tenants a University as well as a music conservatory. The students of both were wildly tweeting their (wrong) interpretations of the situation.

We are a public company and our Unit (stock) prices of our Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) went unaffected during this period. Up until that point our firm had never Tweeted or monitored Tweets that referenced us.
Once all the dust had settled we received letters of thanks from several tenants for how we handled the situation, our Chairmen personally thanked our president and several key executive members and our other employees were impressed at the professional manner in which things were dealt with, to the point of giving our Operations staff an ovation at a company wrap up meeting.
